Using a Jib Crane
A slewing jib crane is installed in a certain position, around which heavy loads need to be regularly lifted and moved in order to facilitate jib crane installation. A typical area of operation for this type of crane is around production and machine tools that need to be loaded with heavy transport containers. Industrial saws and cutting machines like water, plasma or flame cutters are commonly equipped with a jib crane. With their help, the delivered components can be easily placed on the work table and then taken away again after the process is complete. Free standing jib cranes are ideal for specific and reoccurring uses. Slewing jib cranes are most commonly used indoors. For outdoor operations, slewing jib cranes are often built to be large and powerful. An example of a portable jib crane design, which is decidedly built for outdoor use is the boat crane.
The Construction of a Jib Crane
There are two types of jib cranes. Column-mounted slewing cranes consist of a stable foot, upon which an extended arm is mounted. There is a trolley on the extended arm, which hosts the lifting mechanism. A wall-mounted slewing jib crane does not have its own stand but it is directly mounted on a wall or a column.
Slewing jib cranes intended for indoor use are generally equipped with a horizontal cantilever arm and trolley. Luffing and derrick cranes, in the form of a slewing crane, are not overhead cranes. When used indoors, slewing cranes with a wide overhanging outer boom require a lot of space, which further restricts the crane's freedom of movement. Luffing and derrick cranes are also available as free standingjib cranes for outdoor use. You can find specific information through jib crane plans.
The Size of a Jib Crane
Revolving cranes have a counterweight, which is used to even out the torque that occurs when a load is lifted. Gantry and overhead cranes are particularly stable because the distribution of the lifted loads are distributed over several different points of support. Both of these are not available for the crane jib. For this reason, their support and structural system is particularly massive. Slewing crane's columns and cantilever arms can be very large. These constructions allow this type of crane to lift very heavy loads. The stability of the cantilever arm is reached by using torsionally rigid double T beams, box profiles or welded triangular constructions. Jib crane components can be massive, but their construction is very simple. This means that if slewing cranes are bought used, they can be easily modified. The booms (particularly when used with a double T beams) can easily be shortened or switched out for a longer arm. The cranes that are most commonly installed in industrial halls are primarily made out of normal components, which can be easily ordered. For the particularly massive special cranes, the manufacturers can usually help to figure out how best fit the crane in its area of operation. The producers of jib cranes and jib crane parts usually have excellent customer service and also give good advice with regards to buying their used products.
Working with a Jib Crane & Slewing Jib Crane
The size of a jib crane, just like other cranes, determines how qualified the operator needs to be. Simple wall-mounted slewing cranes have an electric motor in the lifting unit. Therefore, pushing the trolley or moving the crane can be undertaken with muscle power. High-quality jib cranes are so well equipped, that they can still be manually adjusted, even with loads of over hundreds of kilogrammes.
In sensitive areas or with loads of up to several tonnes, a portable crane has an engine that powers the trolley and the movement of the beam. These types of cranes are much more expensive than their simple, manually-operated counterparts. This is because these machines are only built with particularly high-quality components. A weight, weighing about a tonne, is located at the tip of the beam, which already gives the crane its torque momentum on the radial and axial bearings of the crane. As the crane turns, there is a further torque in a transverse direction. The applied forces multiply to enormous levels of pressure tension on the bearings and the slewing gear, which puts a strain on all the constructive components. The highest quality components are used so that this can be permanently and safely prevented from happening.
Hall slewing jib cranes are general controlled via a cable or remote control. A crane operating license is required for this type of controlling system. Every operation, which uses this type of crane, needs to appoint safety officers or machines officers. They are trained to provide briefings and internal training on how to operate a truck jib crane. For training on how to operate a crane, there are associations that can provide training materials. With a bit of practice, it is possible to learn how to correctly work with a slewing crane in a few hours.
Outdoor cranes, like loading or boat cranes are controlled from their own driver's cab. Before operating these cranes, one must have an official crane operating license. The independent testing institutes usually have this type of training available.
Accessories For Wall-mounted Slewing Crane And Free Standing Jib Cranes
Jib cranes can be equipped with all types of accessories. In addition to the common beams and chains, permanent or electromagnetic grippers and special lifting devices are available in jib crane kits such as a wall-mounting equipment or even special free standing accessories which makes it possible. Scales and sensors can be useful tools for receiving and sorting goods. If the crane has been optimally suited to fit the job crane specifications, then it is a economical and highly efficient tool.
Buying Used Jib Cranes
Due to their simple construction, portable jib cranes can be bought used. The vertical column and the boom need to be completely straight. Aluminium measuring bars can be used to check this. Crooked, buckled or warped cranes should not be used. A bent boom suggests that the used portable jib crane for sale has been overloaded and this can impact all the crane's components. If the crane has been disassembled, then the bearings and bearing supports can no longer be noise and backlash free. Therefore, damaged cranes should not be used and should be recycled.
A used jib crane should always have a certification label from an independent monitoring organisation. One should be cautious with freshly painted used cranes. If the jib crane for sale has been repaired using welding, this can often no longer be seen under the paint. If these repairs were not undertaken correctly, there is a large risk that the crane could break. Therefore, a good crane with strong indications that it has been used is better than one that has been freshly painted. You can find many different used jib cranes for sale on TradeMachines, including for instance portable jib crane or mobile jib crane, small jib crane, floor mounted jib crane, hydraulic jib crane and telescopic jib crane. Here you can find the best jib sale all over the web.
Used Jib Cranes Manufacturers
All established crane manufacturers have a collection of used jib cranes for sale in their product range. The recommended jib crane manufacturers are DEMAG-TEREX, ABUS KRANSYSTEME, VETTER KRANTECHNIK, STÖCKL, ZASCHE and MECHANIK TAUCHA. GORBEL jib cranes are also high-quality cranes.
