ZARGES

Since its foundation in the 1930s, German firm ZARGES GmbH has become known for its sturdy, convenient and light-weight aluminium products, which extend from ladders to multi-purpose trolleys.

A famous name across the world in the aluminium sector

ZARGES is a Bavaria-based company which specializes in the manufacture of aluminium products. The firm was founded in Stuttgart in 1933 by Walther Zarges, with production focusing on lightweight aluminium ladders. In 1939, the company moved to a new location in Upper Bavaria, and grew strongly after World War II, when ZARGES GmbH became a partner of the Allied forces, servicing American bombers. But the major growth area in the 1950s was civilian storage, with ZARGES pioneering lightweight aluminium containers (which were found to be particularly useful for mountaineers). The 1970s saw the company exploring new frontiers in automation and IT, raising the productivity of its plants, and its boxes became a common sight in homes and workplaces across Germany. In 1997, ZARGES GmbH merged with the French firm Tubesca to form ZARGESTUBESCA, an aluminium producer with global reach. This also involved expansion into other markets, with a new factory opening in Hungary, and subsidiaries in India and the United States opening in 2008. Since then, the firm has continued to develop its aluminium products, which are used in everyday life by a wide range of customers, from offices to film crews.
