PEUGEOT

The French company PEUGEOT is well-known for the manufacture of personal, commercial and industrial vehicles. Its range includes small cars, vans, SUVs and trucks. It is part of the larger PSA PEUGEOT CITROËN group.

One of the world's leading manufacturers of commercial vehicles

Although the firm is famous for its cars and trucks, the French company PEUGEOT has its origins in the early nineteenth century, when a family grain mill was converted into a steel foundry. After making their name as a producer of bicycles, the firm started to manufacture automobiles in the 1890s, and was one of the first companies in the world to adopt production line technique. The firm moved into France's largest factory in the town of Sochaux in 1912 and then grew solidly throughout the twentieth century, weathering the stresses of economic hard times and European wars. PEUGEOT became a famous name in truck manufacturing,  personal cars and performance racing vehicles alike, creating a global brand based on quality and reliability. One of the strongest areas of the company's operations is its van making subsidiary, and their panel vans and tarpaulin covered vehicles are a common site across Europe. Throughout its history, PEUGEOT has also been at the forefront of technological change, trialling an electric car as early as 1941 and pioneering diesel vehicles. Since 2000, the firm has sought to combine its traditional expertise in engine manufacturing with environmental awareness, introducing technologies to filter out harmful particles and radically reduce fuel consumption. The company has also become truly global, with around half of all sales occurring outside Europe and a strong market position in China and India.
