JEEP

The American firm JEEP is a manufacturer of SUVs and utility vehicles with a famous history of producing rugged off-road vehicles. The firm is owned by Chrysler, which in turn is owned by Italy's Fiat, and has an international client base.

Gaining fame as a workhorse during wartime, and an off-road legend

JEEP is an internationally known American manufacturer of rugged off-road and SUV vehicles, which also manufactures a range of commercial vehicles. First produced in 1941, JEEP's are the oldest off-road vehicles still in production, and gained fame for their association with the American army during World War Two and beyond. After the war, JEEP focused on manufacturing off road vehicles for commercial and private applications, including technologically advanced models which had the capability to traverse river beds. This kind of rugged quality made them popular as business vehicles for companies working in hard to access terrain such as mining firms, quarries, oil and gas exploration and agricultural businesses. During the 1950s, JEEP also began to produce 4-wheel drive trucks, delivery vans that were used by the US Post Office, while later decades saw models like the Dispatcher, which became a commonly used vehicle in emergency services and policing organizations.

Expanding production across the world and focusing on SUV models

During the 1990s, JEEP began to move away from its focus on all-terrain working vehicles, producing a more commercial selection of SUVs that have been popular with urban taxi firms and as company cars. But the Wrangler model of JEEPs continued to feature high performance 4-wheel drive technologies and continue to be used by businesses that operate in challenging environments. One of the features of JEEP's history has been that the firm has licensed its designs to be manufactured across the world, helping it to become a global brand. Factories in countries as far apart as Argentina, China, the Philippines, Israel and Venezuela have all acquired JEEP factories and produced some of the firm's models. Nowadays, the company continues to offer commercial vehicles as part of its product range. This includes the Grand Cherokee range of SUVs, which features a V8 engine and enhanced safety features, as well as the Wrangler selection of off-road vehicles. SUVs like the Liberty and the Patriot are also marketed as business vehicles for cab companies and small businesses.

The range of commercial and industrial vehicles manufactured by JEEP includes:
