BARFORD

BarfordBARFORD was a British engineering firm, which specialized in making high quality dumper trucks and heavy rollers. The firm no longer trades as an independent entity, but thousands of their trucks are still in use, and there have been regular plans to restart manufacturing around the world.

A Heritage of Manufacturing High Quality Dump Trucks and Rollers

AVELING BARFORD began manufacturing trucks in 1934, when Edward and William Barford opened a major factory in the city of Grantham, England. It swiftly became one of the leading manufacturers of heavy mechanical rollers, used in road building and grounds-keeping, and expanded into the ground moving sector after World War II by developing a popular range of dump trucks, which are still widely used around the world. Ownership of BARFORD was held by RUSTON and HORNSBY until 1967, before the company was purchased by vehicle manufacturer BRITISH LEYLAND. The Grantham factory continued to build high quality heavy vehicles until it eventually closed in 1988. After that, the BARFORD brand and its products line were bought by WORDSWORTH HOLDINGS, which built their trucks and rollers until they in turn went out of business in 2010. Despite the instability of their parent company, AVELINGBARFORD dump trucks and rollers remain common and finding parts for them is not difficult. This has meant that construction equipment is widely used in construction projects in the developing world, where they are prized for their high quality workmanship and reliable performance. Their dump trucks can be found in a range of sizes, from lightweight 0.75 tonne models to industrial-scale 10 tonne vehicles.
