ARBURG GmbH + Co. KG is one of the world's leading manufacturers of plastic injection moulding technology. The firm was founded by Arthur Hehl in 1923 in the German town of Lossburg, and started out as a manufacturer of medical instruments. However, the firm really began to expand after the War, as it began to benefit from the post-war consumer boom, manufacturing essential like hairpins and wire baskets. The 1950s saw ARBURG producing components for flash cameras, while the leap into plastic manufacture occurred after 1954. From then on, ARBURG GmbH + Co. KG became an innovator in injection molding, creating designs which far superseded older machinery in terms of efficiency and ease of use. In 1973, the firm hit a milestone with more than 10,000 injection moulding machines having been sold. The firm continued to innovate, installing the first computer software into injection moulding machinery in 1975, while the 1980s saw progress made in the automation of the plastic moulding process. This period also saw ARBURG GmbH become a European - ARBURG UK & Germany -, then a global leader - ARBURG USA - in the plastics industry, and the firm currently has a presence in more than 100 nations. It also employs almost 2,000 people in its German operations. Recent developments have seen ARBURG Inc. specializing in making their injection moulding machines as energy efficient as possible, as well as the opening of a state of the art production and customer demonstration centre in Lossburg. All of this expansion has occurred without compromising the family run nature of the firm.
