A baling press is a piece of plant which compresses material into regular rectangular prisms or cubes. This enables the material to be easily transported and stored, minimising the amount of work required to move materials from one place to another. A bale press machine consists of an engine, a hopper (or container) to contain the material and a hydraulic arm which squeezes the material either horizontally or vertically to achieve a more regular shape.

Different types of baling presses

The material requiring compression frequently determines the type of hydraulic baling press which is most appropriate. A scrap baling press, for example, will be used to crush waste metal, textiles, card, paper or other materials which are commonly recycled.
